HISTORY
I grew up in a small town
in Northern California, Mendocino. I was a very awkward child who stuttered.
During my sophomore year of high school, my English teacher, Mrs. Lemos
kept me after school and had me read Shakespeare while holding my tongue.
By the end of the year I no longer stuttered. My history teacher, Mr. Meuske
coerced me into participating on the speech team. He knew how much it would
help my self-esteem, which was badly bruised. Mr. Davidson, my music teacher
encouraged me to play in the marching band, the orchestra and sing in the
chorus.
I often wonder what would
have become of me if I had not been as fortunate as to have these amazing
teachers in my life.
If you have ever had someone
in your life who has made a difference, you know how important this is.
Everyone knows that our
future is determined by our children. Have you ever met a child that deserves
to live on the street? Did you ever see a child and thought that all they
can expect in life is to live among drugs, crime and poverty?
In 2000 I was exposed
to Profound Learning in Canada and was inspired by their innovate educational
programs. From that point on it seemed like every where I went I was exposed
to various forms of children's educational programs, communities for underprivileged
children and many inspiring projects that have made a profound difference
in our world.
It occurred to me that
until we can honestly say that all is right in this world we live in, there
are never enough programs. Thus, the birth of the concept of UBU.
